the story of hope church sutton
Hope Church Sutton launched in November 2015 as a graft of people from Cheam Baptist Church into the already existing Hope Community Church. This is the story of how that all happened.
Hope Community Church
In the Autumn of 2012, a group of people who lived in the Sutton area but who travelled to church at Dundonald Church in Raynes Park started meeting as a group with a view to forming a new church plant nearer where they lived. Dundonald Church is part of the Co-Mission network of churches, which is committed to planting new churches throughout London.
The group began to grow, gathering together some more people from other Co-Mission churches who either lived in the Sutton area already or were thinking of moving there. By November 2013 they launched their first public service at Robin Hood Junior School, with a full-time pastor, around 25 adults and a similar number of children.
Cheam Baptist Church
Cheam Baptist Church is a thriving independent church in the heart of Cheam that by 2014 had started a second Sunday morning service and were already close to capacity. For some time they had been exploring the idea of planting a church in Sutton with their many members who already lived in the area. Knowing Hope had already been recently planted, we discussed the idea of doing church together, and the result is Hope Church Sutton.
