Due to COVID-19 we have made some temporary changes to our 'normal' services:
When we meet
Despite the lockdown, we will continue to meet every Sunday while the government allow us:
2:30pm - Adult Service
4pm - All-Age Service (not currently happening)
Our services last around an hour each. We expect a mix of Christians and people who wouldn't call themselves Christians but are open-minded, so you are very welcome if you belong to either group!
Where we meet
We meet at Christchurch Sutton, Christchurch Park, Sutton SM2 5TN. There is on street parking which is free on Sundays and a small onsite car park which takes around 10-15 cars. By public transport you can take several different buses or we're a ten minute walk from Sutton mainline train station. There is a ramp for disabled access to the building and an onsite garden.
Car parking is available in the car park directly in front of the building but it is small and a tight squeeze. We therefore recommend you park in the marked bays on the street outside which is free on Sundays.
The door to enter will be marked by our flags and a steward. Upon entry there will be hand sanitising and a one way system. You will also be asked to write down your name and email for track and trace reasons (details will be deleted after three weeks). You will be shown to a pew - in order to be helpful, please don't sit where you want but go with the seat you are shown to. They have pews installed and marked so that we shall sit every other pew and with marked distances from those on the same pews.
Note - you will need to wear a mask (although children under the age of 11 are explicitly not required to wear them) and it would be great if you could bring a Bible (if you don't have one, you can download the Bible App on your phone).
What we do
In our church services we'll have music, prayers, a Bible reading and a talk around the Bible reading. We believe that the Bible is God's Word for people today, so we always try to explain what it says in ways we can all understand and relate to. Due to COVID-19 there will be no singing from the congregation but there will be some music for spiritual reflection. We will have our other usual elements such as prayers and a sermon.
After the service we will discourage speaking to each other inside. There is a separate exit to ensure the one way system is followed. For those who would prefer not to speak to anyone (in the interests of safety!) please do feel free to leave. For those who would like to speak to others, there is a grassed area immediately outside and a larger communal garden around the back (with a play area for key stage 1 and under only). We recommend speaking to only one or two people, and it is imperative that you record exactly who you speak to.
Our All-Age service at 4pm will be suitable for children and we will provide them with activities and resources to stay engaged through the afternoon. We want to encourage you to join us and not worry when your child makes noise and gets restless! There will be an overflow room for those who really need a temporary timeout, however we really do want to make these services accessible to all ages (including adults!) and so want to encourage you to persist with children sitting through the whole service.
If your children are happy to sit through an adult service with no additional resources then you are welcome to attend either service.
Coronavirus Government Guidelines - Important Information
Due to COVID-19, there are government guidelines to which we must adhere to:
Individuals/ groups attending from the same household must observe the 2 metre social distancing rule with other members of the congregation at all times. Our volunteers will help steward this.
You must wear masks (although children under the age of 11 are explicitly not required to wear one).
To avoid the spread of infection, people should bring their own Bibles wherever possible. There will be a few spares available for visitors.
All visitors must sign in and use the hand sanitiser on entering the church.
Sadly, there will be no singing from the congregation during the service.
There will be no refreshments served but people are welcome to bring their own.
These guidelines will be kept up to date so please continue to check back in case the situation changes.
Who can come
Everyone is welcome to hear about Jesus and to get to know him through our church!
We don't expect you to come from any particular denomination nor do we expect you to be a christian. Everyone who is open-minded about Jesus is welcome.
We don't have a dress code so please come in whatever you are comfortable in.
For those who are sheltering at home and for people away on holiday, we will do our best to livestream the 2.30pm adult service on YouTube. However, this is technically challenging and may take a few weeks for us to get right. At the minimum, we shall endeavour to upload it to our YouTube channel to be able to watch that evening.
If you would like to be personally contacted to be kept up to date about when this will be available, please let us know. Otherwise, check the YouTube channel from 2.30pm:
